I found an article about a camp for non-profit professionals to focus on a few non-profit concepts during the summer. I thought this to be a great idea! Here is why!
- We could use more adult summer learning experiences. While the kids may be off on their own summer adventure, adults may want to “play” and learn too.
- The generations younger than the Silents want hands-on activities. From Boomers to Millennials, hosting a camp, workshop, class, or other activity of this nature can lure in adults who are hungry for new experiences.
- You can tie in a community feel to these experiences, which can accomplish many of the 4 C’s of audience development (connection, collaboration, community, care).
- If your idea is campy enough, it might get some great press in your area!
- You can use these experiences to really sell your art form. Once people have an individual experience, they are more likely to become more involved in the future.
So think about what you can do for this summer or for the next summer season. It is smart to be a little campy at times for audience development!
Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
