Here is a quick post for you today since I am busy building audiences and support for my clients!
I received a marketing email from a local organization, and I was puzzled to see, yet again, the same old faces on their programming, and some of the same repertoire. For a presenter, it doesn’t make sense to keep recycling the same guest artists and programming over and over again.
It might be fine to invite back an artist after a few years have past, but I am starting to see presenters taking the easy way out and asking the same people again since it is so simple to program this way. It is easy to keep programming the “favorites.”
However, if I am starting to get bored with the programming, I bet many of your audience members are as well. Not to mention, it makes it super challenging and frustrating for your marketing/audience development people to attempt to create fresh spin for old programs.
Remember the reports are saying that one of the reasons audience members go to arts experiences is for something new. Recycling may be good for our planet, but not for our programming.
Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
Shoshana
