I am going to state the obvious. Now, during these sheltering times, is the best time to focus on your social media channels and figure out what is working and what is not.
Here are some more obvious ideas to think about:
- Fresh content! If you are repeating over and over, your numbers go down. Fresh and interesting content is always the best for perking up your followers and your numbers.
- Get real. You can let your hair down and be a real person. Yes, branding is great, but showing the people behind the brand is even better!
- Conversations. I know it is challenging, but having conversations instead of one-sided posts is much better. Ask questions. State something sublime that people have to respond to. Challenge them to solve something. I have seen a pick up of conversations and interactions since these types of posts are coming back. Join in the fun!
- Interact with others. Remember, it is not all about them coming to your page. You can comment and like as your page. Go out there and help each other out!
- It is not all about the numbers. The numbers in the analytics can be used as a guide to what is working and what is not. You can make great decisions based on this. However, it is more about the fun you are having. People will feel and see if you are really into something or not. If you are doing it for the numbers, they can also feel that too. Organic fun is the way to go. Break loose of the numbing numbers game, and just have fun putting yourself out there in creative ways!
- Decide which social media channels you really like to do. Get rid of the ones you really hate to do or hire someone for those channels. Life is too short to waste time on something you hate to do.
- Lastly, experiment. This is the best time to try technology that you have not done before. I recently tried a Zoom to Facebook Live. It worked! What other technology have you been putting off due to thinking you could never do it yourself. You will be surprised how easy these options are for using now, and people are super forgiving when you mention it is your first time doing something. Go for it!
People are on social media now more than ever. We are clamoring to connect in any way that we can. I spent part of my weekend watching the Virtual Fest for Beatles Fans on Facebook. I spent time with my sister watching some fab musicians perform some of our faves.
I am so grateful that there are mediums that the arts can continue to entertain and connect us. And, you can be one of those awesome people leading the way!
Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
