Getting unstuck

Pema Chodron quote: The Process of becoming unstuck requires tremendous bravery, because basically...

Of all places for inspiration, leave it to a dating profile to get me thinking. It stated that they did not desire to be with someone who was stuck. They wanted someone that is full of life.

This was written during this time when many of us are feeling a little stuck. I know people who have lost their jobs and are searching and searching for a new one. They are stuck without a job. I know people whose social lives have become stuck. I also know people who are feeling “Stuck inside these four walls” (Band on the Run – McCartney and Wings).

I am happy for the people who are living very full lives still since they have their jobs and income intact, but instead of creating a negative to place on other people, why not be an inspiration instead?

Yet, there are other ways people can be stuck – stuck in their ways. This type of stickiness limits perspectives and has created the very crises we are in now.

Are you stuck watching the same news channels? Are you stuck by only associating with a certain circle of people? Are you stuck with the types of entertainment you view? This list of questions could go on and on.

For example, I was feeling stuck in my workouts. I realized that I mainly was following a certain type of trainer. I felt it was time to add a little diversity to my workouts. I fell upon some different forms of Tabata and HIIT, Bollywood, Hip Hop, and African dance. Plus, an instructor from Germany really made my day with her sunny dance workouts. The world of workouts is ours for the taking on YouTube (lots and lots of freebies for those stuck without jobs and full income).

The point is, there are many ways we can become stuck in life, and the best way out is to diversify.

So, how does this relate to your art or arts business? Like I have mentioned in the past, you have the power to diversify your life, and in doing so, you can open yourself to new experiences and people that can carry over to your arts business.

Join a class that will stretch you. Try a new ethnic restaurant. Read and watch books, movies, and videos by all types of people. This is the only way we will be able to fully understand the world outside of our bubbles and to slowly merge into new groups of people and cultures. It is only then we might have a chance of understanding each other and becoming unstuck in our lives and in our businesses.

I read this morning that The Met is finally scheduling works from African Americans and women. The question was, What took them so long?

Don’t wait so long to become unstuck. And to that person who claimed they could not be with someone stuck, I have a feeling that they are stuck in their ways and desires as well by making that statement.

The only way out is to understand other people’s points of view with compassion, curiosity and courage.

What will you do to get unstuck today?

Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
Shoshana

PS Spooky, but Band on the Run just came on at the coffee shop. Synchronicity for sure!
