Facebook has a point
The recent changes in Facebook have many of us crying “foul play!” We have friends falling off of our news-feeds and people who have liked our pages are no longer receiving our posts. We have to work harder and smarter to have our information viewed now for free, or we will have to give in and pay to have content seen.
However, Facebook has a point. It popped into my head the other day. Facebook is supposed to be a social network. What has sadly happened is that we stopped using it as such. Now Facebook is pushing us to either be more social or to spend money.
There is still a way that Facebook can be beneficial for free. If we set aside time to actually interact with folks again (like, share, comment), then people will stop falling off of our feeds and people will start receiving information from their page choices again. It is the interaction that will allow free content to flow freely!
This all came to me when I had a friend comment that I had been quiet on Facebook. Are you kidding me? Me being quiet on social media? It happens at times, but rarely. This means my friend was no longer interacting with my posts (no likes, comments or shares) so my posts fell off his feed.
Also, I am finding that if you want people to care about what you have to say and share, it is good to care about what they have to say and share too. Social media properly used is very much a reciprocal balance, much like friendship, right?
So, Facebook has a point. If we are not going to bother to be social and interact with folks, what is the point of Facebook posting our content? The good news is that when/if we do start interacting with our friends and pages, our lives will again be enriched with two way content and two way friendships. Using social media to build relationships makes sense and saves cents!
Cheers to happy and loyal audiences,
