My goodness. I spent hours going through my tweets and attempting to narrow each category down. There were so many fabulous audience development tweets, this was not an easy task. However, I was able to narrow to the best of my ability. I wanted to use this blog as a place where you could refer back for some of the best ideas of 2009, so I didn’t narrow down to a best 3 or 5.
I can honestly say that I believe what follows were the best tweets on audience development for 2009. On Friday, I will announce the winners of each category.
Please do me a favor and post a comment. What would you would vote for? These are not easy decisions, especially since I know there was a great deal of heart and soul involved with each idea, discussion, etc.
So without further ado….

I vote for the En Foco Tweet because the words still resonate and ring as true today as they did then.
I vote for En Foco to win the Best Tweets Award!
Shoshana,
First I need to say how inspirational it has been reading all these tweets. Michelle Obama’s hits at the heart of a very overlooked matter: artists often document their times through their work, yet are overlooked as important contributors to history.
Your selection of tweets is very motivating too, and we’re honored that David Gonzalez’s quote about En Foco has been included among the best. Today, the fact remains that the South Bronx neighborhood comprises one of the most disadvantaged areas in the United States, with more than 40% of children living in families below poverty level. Bronx County is one of only four in the nation, where 30% of households are led by single women.
Thirty-five years after En Foco’s inception, we are still doing what we can to provide uplifting and positive examples of what the arts means to a neighborhood.
And getting back to the point about history: our Permanent Collection reflects four decades of works created by photographers of color, and En Foco is looking forward to exhibiting it in the Bronx and nationwide, in the near future.
